ICYMI: Congressman Lucas: “You Don’t Negotiate From a Position of Surrender.”
In case you missed it during today’s House Financial Services Committee hearing, Congressman Frank Lucas (R-OK) strongly urged his colleagues to reauthorize the Export-Import https://exportersforexim.org/files/2015/06/bank and argued that congress should go “punch for punch” to keep the U.S. competitive.
Congressman Lucas also said the U.S. should not “negotiate from a position of surrender.” Please see below for the video and full quotes.
Rep. Lucas Says Congress Should Go “Punch For Punch, Blow For Blow” To Keep America Competitive. “Everyone knows that my perspective is that in a competitive world economically you’ve got to be able to go punch for punch, blow for blow, you’ve got to do what is necessary to give our fellow citizens a chance to prosper economically, to have good jobs, to grow our economy. I view Export-Import as one of those tools in the battle with sixty other countries around the world.”

Rep. Lucas: “You Don’t Negotiate From A Position Of Surrender. You Negotiate From A Position Of Strength.” “Do whatever you have to do my friends from your philosophical perspectives, but don’t in a competitive world say that we’re going to establish a principal so perfect, so idealistic, so philosophically straight forward that everyone else will flock to it. That’s not the way it works. It’s not the way it works. You don’t negotiate from a position of surrender. You negotiate from a position of strength.”
